After three years of navigating the inland waterways in our River Cruiser, we have made the significant decision to commission the construction of a bespoke wide beam boat. Our extensive cruising experience, which has included over five months during the summer months and an additional month in winter to assess heating efficiency, has provided us with invaluable insights into live-aboard life. 

Our travels have taken us through various notable locations, including Ripon, Leicester, Nottingham, Leeds, Lincoln, Doncaster, York, and Manchester. Currently, our wide beam vessel, measuring 60 feet by 12 feet 6 inches, is under construction. The steelwork and painting are being executed by Collingwood in Liverpool, after which the boat will be transported to Lymm Marina for the internal fittings, encompassing electrical and plumbing systems.

We have confidence in the expertise of Chris and his team at Lymm Marina, who possess four decades of boatbuilding experience. The completion of the steelwork is anticipated by December 2025, with the vessel expected to arrive at Lymm Marina in early January 2026. Our recent visit in January was productive; it was particularly gratifying to witness the delivery of the boat to Lymm Marina on an extensive lorry for the internal fitting. During our time on site, we observed the installation of the diesel central heating boiler and the positioning of the calorifier water heater. We also devoted time to marking the floor to indicate the locations of walls and bulkheads, as well as determining the placements of essential radiators and the wood-burning stove.
